Equinox Eclipse: A Threshold for Renewal

Twice a year, the Earth pauses in perfect balance: day and night equal, light and shadow standing face to face. In the Northern hemisphere, we are approaching the Autumn Equinox — the great turning point when the wheel tips us into the darker half of the year. A season of release, harvest, and descent.

This year, the Equinox is no ordinary crossing. It arrives under the Virgo New Moon and a powerful Solar Eclipse — a cosmic convergence that magnifies the threshold. Eclipses are catalysts. They bring endings that cannot be delayed, beginnings that cannot be denied. Virgo, the earth sign of sacred service and refinement, asks us:

  • What clutter must be cleared?

  • What perfectionism or control must be surrendered?

  • What is essential, aligned, embodied — and what is not?

This is a rare and potent moment to reset the inner compass. To step into the shadow without fear, and emerge with clarity.

Plant Medicine Teachers at the Threshold

At times like these, we do not need to walk alone. The plant medicine teachers are here to help us navigate the threshold with more ease, grace, and strength. They comfort us as we face our shadow, but they also encourage us — lovingly, firmly — to move through it, because avoidance is no longer possible.

Like wise mothers, they hold us as we tremble, and they remind us of the light we carry. As we nurture our inner flame, it glows all the brighter against the backdrop of shadow.

Why I choose to work with Ceremonial Cacao, Why Now

Among the plant teachers, cacao is one of the most powerful allies for these moments. She is the medicine of the heart: softening the critic, deepening intuition, grounding us in the body while expanding our awareness.

Ceremonial cacao — as taught to me by the Guatemalan grandmothers — is more than a drink. It is a sacred teacher, a spirit that guides us into compassion, courage, and clarity.

And when paired with sound in my authentic cacao ceremonies — the great orchestra of 7 powerful symphonic gongs and many other sound healing instruments — the journey deepens. The vibrations clear stagnant energy, reset the nervous system, and open the doors of perception. Together, cacao and sound activate our consciousness, helping us to see what needs to be seen, to release what must fall away, and to step forward with power.

The Equinox Eclipse Ceremony

On Sunday 21st September, I invite you to join me in a small circle, as we gather at Plant Spirit Medicine Woman’s Moon Lodge for the Virgo New Moon Solar Eclipse ceremony. Together we will:

💗 Drink ceremonial cacao to open the heart, face the shadow, and ground our intentions in love.
🌀 Bathe in the resonance of gongs and healing instruments, clearing and activating our consciousness.
🌑 Work with Virgo’s eclipse medicine to refine, release, and plant soul-aligned seeds.

This is not just another circle. This is a threshold moment written in the stars — an Equinox, a New Moon, and a Solar Eclipse woven together. To meet it with cacao and sound is to meet it fully: body, heart, and spirit aligned.

If You Cannot attend in Person, here’s a gentle ceremony for you too!

For those unable to join us in Margate, you can still honour this Equinox Eclipse with a simple at-home cacao ritual.

Create a pocket of sacred time, perhaps an hour or more, allowing yourself to drop into the rhythm of Earth, Moon, and heart.

You may like to explore the ritual practice alone, or with a friend or 2. Cacao loves company, but be aware of your needs as a priority; sometimes, we need space to reflect deeply.

🌑 Prepare your cacao with presence

Melt it slowly into a rich drink, stirring clockwise with intention. Connect with cacao as a conscious being — perhaps whispering, singing, or breathing your prayer into the cup. Let the preparation itself be the beginning of ceremony.

Ask yourself: What am I inviting into this sacred space? What support do I most need from this plant medicine today?

🕯 Create sacred space

Light a candle to mark the balance of light and dark. Place an offering — a flower, a stone, a pinch of herbs — on your altar as a symbol of gratitude for this medicine and for the turning of the seasons.

Ask yourself: What part of myself is asking to be seen and welcomed now, even if it feels uncomfortable?

🍫 Sip with awareness

Drink slowly, feeling the warmth enter your body and soften your heart. Notice the way cacao opens the inner doorway, grounding you in the body even as it expands your awareness.

Ask yourself: What in me is ready to be released into the eclipse’s darkness? What seed is asking to be planted in this fertile soil of new beginnings?

🎶 Sit in silence or with soothing sounds

Allow yourself to sink into stillness, or play gentle sounds that help you journey inward. Close your eyes and listen — not just with your ears, but with your whole being.

Ask yourself: What truth is Virgo’s wisdom showing me? Where can I refine, simplify, and devote myself more fully to what matters most?

🌍 Offer gratitude

When you are complete, give thanks to the Earth for her turning, to the Moon and Eclipse for their illumination, and to the spirit of cacao for walking with you as both comforter and teacher.

Ask yourself: How can I carry this sense of clarity and devotion into my daily life?

You can find my 3 favourite ceremonial-grade cacao here:

Guatemalan Ceremonial Cacao - Lake Lachua
from £22.50

This is a high-quality fine-grade organic ceremonial cacao, grown on ancestral land in Guatemala, near the pristine and sacred Lake Lachuá, where the soil is naturally infused with jade deposits—long revered by the Mayans as a symbol of purity, life force, and divine connection.

Grown with deep care and respect for the land, this cacao is cultivated by a small collective of Indigenous farmers, who work in harmony with the rhythms of nature and the spirit of the jungle. Only the healthiest, ripest cacao pods are hand-selected for ceremonial use, while others are sold as regular cacao.

The beans are sun-dried and gently roasted over a wood fire, stirred lovingly by hand to preserve their natural essence and flavor. This gives the cacao a deep richness with a slightly earthy, grounding aroma and a beautifully balanced finish.

What makes this cacao especially unique is the energy of the land it comes from—powerful, heart-centered, and deeply healing. Drinking this cacao feels like being embraced by a cacao angel—its wings wrapping around you in loving support. It awakens a gentle, yet potent clarity and resilience, guiding you to explore how you show up in the world. Empowering and encouraging, it helps align you with your truth and fortifies your spirit for the path ahead.

The taste is rich and creamy, with notes of wild berries, toasted nuts, and a subtle spiced undertone. It melts smoothly, leaving a lasting creamy chocolatey taste on the tongue.

This cacao has been blessed with sacred intention to support healing, heart-opening ceremonies, and soulful connection. It is truly a gift from the Earth and the ancestors—medicine for our modern times.

These are chopped up pieces of pure ceremonial cacao: vibrant, velvety, and infused with spirit. Available in 200g, 500g, and 1kg quantities.

Spirit of the Valley Ceremonial Cacao
from £22.50

This is high-quality fine-grade organic chuncho ceremonial cacao, grown on an organic family cacao farm in Peru, on the edge of the jungle, in a region known as 'La Convencion'.

It is processed and fermented by hand and only the best healthy pods are selected and used for ceremonial-grade cacao. The other pods are separated and sold as regular cacao.

The cacao beans are dried in the sun and roasted in a wood-fired roasting oven a little and moved by hand to keep the cacao at the right temperature, which gives it its extra quality, and a beautiful slightly smoky flavour.

The owner of this farm, Fabrizioz, loves what he does, he doesn't drink alcohol so his energy is pure, he even hugs the trees! He lives with his wife and 2 daughters, and his Cacao farm is managed in the traditional way Mayans have worked for 1,000s of years, in symbiosis with mama nature, and all the other plants & animals of the jungle.

This cacao has also been blessed in a sacred Despacho ceremony for us, with my personal handwritten intentions, by a very powerful medicine man and healer, to help heal our hearts and minds, and connect us all deeply to this sacred medicine.

These are solid blocks of delicious pure cacao, very smooth and a little bitter, with a really pure taste and texture.

Invitations of use; dosage per person: 14 - 28g daily use. 28g – 42g ceremonial use .

Whisk with hot water or plant-based milk.

A Rhythm Beyond the Equinox

The Equinox Eclipse is a rare crossing, but our journey with cacao continues every two weeks, at each New and Full Moon. Each ceremony is a chance to sit with the medicine, honour the cycles, and return again and again to the rhythm of heart and cosmos.

This Equinox is the beginning. Cacao will be there to guide us through every moon to come — whispering, holding, sometimes nudging — as we remember who we are and step forward in clarity and power.
